撕繪畫,一種透過撕下畫面上的紙膠帶,改變作品完成的狀態,並與觀者、藏家共同參與ㄧ場繪畫何時完成的裝置場域。

關於繪畫的完成性,我認為有三種狀態:第一,藝術家認為已經它完成了;第二,作品展出中;第三,被收購。而這三種狀態的結果,都是藝術家不再介入的狀態,這意味著作品的畫面不會再被改變。在這樣的規則下,我開始在想像有沒有一種繪畫,它能擁有既是完成,同是也是未完成的可能性?

所以我利用紙膠帶「暫時性遮蔽」的特性,為繪畫創造了一個雙重可能的時空,繪畫一面是完成的狀態,因為所有埋藏在紙膠裡的圖像都被藝術家事先安排好的;同時它也未完成的,因為觀眾撕紙膠帶,畫面就會持續改變,而藝術家的介入還是存在,因為一切的改變仍在我的規則之下。在此,「撕繪畫」就形成了一種「已然而未然」的弔詭狀態。

有趣的是,從道明的作品樣態來看,這並非所謂的參與式創作,撕下紙膠帶這個動作並不會讓觀眾搖身成為作品的共同創作人,因為紙膠帶可撕下的範圍以及可能呈現的效果都出不了藝術家的安排與意料。如此,這一套參與的機制所帶給人的是一份「親手體會畫面如何臻於完成」的經驗,它讓觀者確實能說:「我自身的行為,改變了畫面的視覺樣貌。」
